The original vision behind VisiCalc — the worlds first spreadsheet software—included a heads-up display from a fighter plane. As the idea evolved into something more realistic it became the killer app that helped launch personal computers into the mainstream.
Fantastic and unrealistic concepts are the starting point for many great inventions. The stepping-stones that reveal themselves as you think through these impossible scenarios are often innovative ideas themselves.
The original “out there” visions may never be built, but their conception is a necessary part of the process.
